Animals and Their Young

Target Age:
Middle Two-Year Old
Materials You Will Need:
pictures or figures of goose and gosling, wolf and cub, horse and foal, sheep and lamb, goat and kid
What To Do:
Children are intrigued with animals at this age. Today talk with your child about animals and their babies. Take out the goat and kid. "This is the mommy goat and this is the baby goat." "Goat, Kid." Tell your child about the others. Put each pair in an envelope or on a ring. Keep them in a basket on the toy shelf.
Variations:
Have your child match the animal with their baby. "This is the goose. Where is the gosling?"
